NURSES ENDORSE REP. ILHAN OMAR
MINNEAPOLIS — Mary Turner, the Minnesota president-elect of National Nurses United endorsed Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in an op-ed published in Insight News.
In her op-ed, Turner wrote,
“As a bedside nurse and president-elect to the National Nurses United, the largest union of registered nurses in the United States, I am proud to support Congresswoman Omar. National Nurses United has always supported her because she stands with us. We have always known how special Ilhan is, and that is why both MNA and NNU have supported her every time she’s run for office. She always has our backs, and most importantly she supports our patients.
As an intensive care nurse at North Memorial in Robbinsdale, MN, I cannot begin to tell you how many people would not have needed to fight for their lives if we had Medicare for All. As a 64-year-old, I’ve cared for countless people, younger than me, in various states of crisis that could have been avoided if they had preventive care. For example, during one of my late night shifts, I had five patients in five hours come in, who were in diabetic crisis because they lacked insulin.
Ilhan sees us. She understands the state of emergency our hospitals are in, she has stood with us on the picket lines, and she knows our healthcare system is broken. As the Vice-Chair of the Medicare for All Caucus, she is working every day to ensure every person has access to universal healthcare. A vote for Ilhan is a vote for safe patient care, for hospital environments free from violence, and more importantly, a healthcare market that values preventive care and accessibility for all Minnesotans.”
