Mayor Terry Wiggin shows his support for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

HILLTOP- Mayor Terry Wiggin details his support for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and thanks her for her critical support in providing Community Project Funding to the City of Hilltop

Since 2020, I’ve had the honor to serve as mayor of Hilltop, the little city with a big heart. Our community is small – just under 1000 people. This makes it hard for us to get the resources we need to keep our residents safe. For years, I have been trying to build an emergency storm shelter for Hilltop. It is no exaggeration to say this is a matter of life or death for our community. For years, I encountered barriers. There were always funding challenges or qualifications we didn’t meet. I was ready to give up, until I turned to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

Finally, our best opportunity presented itself: Community Project Funding. Ilhan could select only 15 projects from all over the district. Out of dozens of proposals, she chose Hilltop. She chose the health and safety of our little city with big hearts when no one else was hearing us. It may not have been the most politically savvy decision to choose Hilltop. Congresswoman Omar could have listened to lobbyists or special interests. But Ilhan didn’t see this as a political decision – she saw it as an obligation to her constituents who had no other place to turn.

That’s who Ilhan is — she has our back. And I’m proud to have hers. Please join me in voting for Congresswoman Omar on Tuesday, Aug. 13th.
